Procter Machine Safety has published a new White Paper that explains the machine guarding requirements with respect to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
These UK regulations are intended to ensure the safety of people at work who are using ‘work equipment’ – which encompasses everything from scissors to CNC machining centres.

The new White Paper focuses on the specialist subject of machine guarding, as this is often not understood fully and the consequences of inadequate machine guarding can be very severe or, in the worst cases, fatal.
Sections in the White Paper consider when PUWER inspections (sometimes referred to as PUWER assessments) are necessary, what the regulations require as far as machine guarding is concerned, compliance with standards and the selection of safeguarding measures. Most usefully, there are also tips for what to look for in a PUWER inspection, which draws on the many years of experience amassed by Procter’s machine guarding experts. Other sections in the White Paper cover the related subject of CE marking, the need for documentation, and machine guarding compliance surveys.
